Doctor Who joins Sarah Jane Adventures

David Tennant

He’s set to hang up his pinstriped suit and Converse pumps at the end of the year, but the Beeb is certainly making the most of David Tennant in the meantime. As well as this year’s three scheduled Doctor Who specials, the 38-year-old thesp has now been signed up for a couple of episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

The hit CBBC series follows the adventures of the Doctor’s old sidekick Sarah Jane Smith, who also starred alongside previous Doctors John Pertwee and Tom Baker in the ‘70s. 61-year-old Elisabeth Sladen, who stars in the show, is early delighted at the news. "When I heard the news that David was going to be joining us I was absolutely over the moon," she gushed. "It's fantastic news that Sarah Jane is going to spend some time working with the Doctor again and is testament to just how successful this CBBC series is."

Russell T Davis, the über -producer behind both shows, has assured Who fans the Doctor’s appearance will be more than just a brief cameo. "Viewers thought they may have to wait until November for the next full episode of Doctor Who, but this is an extra special treat,” he cooed. “And it's not just a cameo from David - this is a full-on appearance for the Doctor as he and Sarah Jane face their biggest threat ever."

David will appear in the show this autumn. The first of three Doctor Who specials, The Waters of Mars, also hits our screens in November.
